Siemens is a leading manufacturer of permanent magnet motors. In 2004, Siemens was on the lookout for a new completely integrated magnetizing system. The unit’s fixtures had to be easily interchangeable for magnetizing a range of different motor types. Metis’ offered a solution consisting of an external fixture that is mounted on a linear axis for stepwise magnetization. The whole system is encapsulated in a safety enclosure taking into account ergonomics and ease of use.

Metis’ key differentiator in this project was its energy efficient design which allowed a serious reduction of required energy yielding a more cost effective solution. The initial skepticism towards Metis’ low-energy solution was quickly overcome when the test results not only proved the validity of the concept, but also showed that this magnetizing approach yields a significant gain in motor performance when compared to alternative production methods.
